Doordarshan to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema on December 31

For all those who prefer to stay at home on New Year's Eve, this year Doordarshan's National channel has planned to regale audiences with Dhoom 2013.

The programme conceived and designed by the Additional Director General of Doordarshan Kendra, Mumbai, Mukesh Sharma will be telecast on the national network on December 31, 2012 at 10 pm onwards.

A media released by DD said the special programme will capture the spirit of 100 years of Indian Cinema and showcase contributions of legends of cinema. Dhoom 2013 will also uncover the mystery behind the disappearing character of "Vamps of Indian Cinema".

"Vamps had a distinct character an identity which over a period of time has metamorphasized. Who can forget Bindu, Aruna Irani, Jayshree T. Padma Khanna... who would set the silver screen on fire,'' said Sharna. Dhoom 2013 will celebrate the spirit of the new year with playback performances by some of the leading singers including Rakha Vishal Bharadwaj, Madhushree, Kavita Seth, Mamta Sharma, Tochi Raina, Vikas Bhalla, Ritu Pathak, Sanjeevani Belande.

But the programme will also look at poignant moments for India and the people who made others laugh, smile and be proud and those who have left their imprint on many. The voice over is of Arvind Mehra and the show is scripted by Deepti Mishra of the Tanu Weds Manu movie fame. The hosts will be Manini Mishra and Rajeev Nigam. This event will also feature the presence and support of Film Star of yesteryears Jeetendra and Film Comedian Johhny Lever.
