Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is one of the best action movies I’ve seen in the last times. Review by Isabel del Rio.
Except for the title, this is a great movie of action and adventures. I really enjoy the film and I particularly enjoy the way they mix historical facts and fantastic elements. The movie is a good metaphor, very well written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Then, the author of the novel… What a coincidence! Sometimes is good the scripts were written by true writers!
The important and historical figure of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States (1861–1865), is portrayed in the novel and, of course, in the film as having a secret identity as a vampire hunter. Does it sound stupid? Yes, it does, but in fact this is a metaphor of Lincoln’s necessity of fighting against bad people (slavers) and to claim for freedom: until we are all free, no one will. Then, all the important events of his life are in the movie: his difficult childhood, his law studies, his marriage to Mary Todd, the death of his children, his political struggles, the Civil War… but mixing legendary elements and the attractive topic of the vampires, a good topic in cinema if you know how manage its plastic references. Photography and special effects are also fantastic.
The rhythm of the film is engrossing and even adults are absorbing by the power of so many perfect scenes passing quickly in front of them.
Cast is fantastic too: Benjamin Walker is Abraham Lincoln and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Mary Todd Lincoln, but I really appreciate the work of Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturges, Lincoln’s mentor in vampire hunting.
